Naturopathic Support for Stress and the Nervous System
Improve mental balance and wellbeing with functional medicine.
An evidence-based approach
Anxiety and depression can disrupt your life, but they don't have to define it
Through a functional medicine approach, we explore the intricate web of physical and nutritional factors that can impact mood, energy and stress tolerance. By understanding and addressing root causes, we can help you regain balance, restore well-being, and achieve a state of calm and happiness.
We work alongside your GP, psychologist or psychiatrist to gently support your nervous system.
Understanding the Root Causes of Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety and depression are often symptoms of deeper imbalances within the body. These conditions can be influenced by a variety of factors, including:
Deficiencies in essential nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins, magnesium and more can impact mental health.
Fluctuations in hormones like cortisol, oestrogen, and thyroid hormones can significantly impact mood.
How we can help
Our Personalised Approach
We are not counsellors or psychologists. However, our approach may include some counselling and life coaching strategies. We also encourage you to find a good psychologist, psychotherapist or counsellor that you trust. Having plenty of tools and support while you navigate your path forward is ideal for your long-term success.
- Medical and Stress History: We start by understanding your complete medical history, including any sources of stress and significant life events that may be impacting your mental health. A higher level of past stress or trauma may still be impacting your current mental health, even if you are unaware of this.
- Family History: Exploring your family history helps us identify any genetic predispositions to anxiety and depression. On the other hand, having a family history of mental health disorders, does not mean that this is your future. Genetics play a role, but it is only a small role compared to other factors.
- Food Choices and Digestive Function: We assess your diet, eating behaviours and gut health, which are critical components in managing mood disorders.
- Lifestyle Evaluation: Your sleep patterns, exercise routines, and daily activities play a significant role in your overall well-being.
- Biochemical, Metabolic, Hormonal and Microbial Testing: If needed, we can suggest tests to identify imbalances in hormones, nutrients, or gut bacteria that could be contributing to your symptoms. This testing can be expensive and is not generally suggested as part of your initial screen (unless you and your practitioner decide to pursue it), however it can be helpful in more complex cases.
Based on our thorough assessment, we design a treatment plan specifically for you. Our functional medicine approach to anxiety and depression includes:
- Nutritional Support: We recommend dietary changes and supplements to address any nutritional deficiencies and support optimal brain function.
- Hormonal Balance: We help balance your hormones through natural means, ensuring they support rather than hinder your mental health.
- Gut Health Optimisation: We work to restore a healthy balance of gut bacteria and improve digestive health, which can have a profound impact on mood and cognitive function.
- Stress Management and Lifestyle Adjustments: We provide strategies to reduce stress and improve your daily routines, including sleep, exercise, and relaxation practices.
- Herbal and Natural Medicines: We use evidence-based herbal and natural remedies to support mental health and alleviate symptoms.
- Emotional and Mental Support: Healing at a deep level requires the right emotional and mental tools, such as mindfulness meditation, support from friends, or professional counselling.

Stress and Nervous System FAQs
A naturopath can support the physical factors that influence stress and mood, including nutrient status, blood sugar stability, thyroid function, gut health and cortisol patterns. This complements, and does not replace, care from your GP, psychologist or psychiatrist. If you're experiencing significant anxiety or depression, we encourage you to remain under the care of your medical and mental health team whilst seeing us.
No. We do not replace mental health care, and we do not advise anyone to stop or change prescribed medication. Anxiety and depression are conditions best managed by your medical and mental health professionals. What we offer sits alongside that care, focusing on the physical and nutritional factors that can influence how you feel day to day.
Thyroid dysfunction, low iron, B12 or vitamin D, blood sugar swings, disrupted cortisol rhythms, poor sleep and gut health can all influence mood, energy and stress tolerance.
Depending on your history, we may assess thyroid function, iron, B12, vitamin D and other relevant nutrients, and where appropriate, use functional testing to explore cortisol patterns, gut health and other systems relevant to your health history.
